Gilmer attorney Brent Goudarzi has been named to the Super Lawyers list as one of the top attorneys in Texas for 2012, and will be included in the October edition of Texas Monthly magazine.
Super Lawyers is a nationwide “rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of professional achievement and peer recognition,” said a news release issued by Goudarzi’s law firm, Goudarzi & Young, L.L.P.
Only five percent of Texas attorneys are named to the Super Lawyers list annually, the statement said.
Goudarzi told The Gilmer Mirror Monday that attorneys do not apply for the honor; instead, he said, people at the rating service “find you” as “your peers, your adversaries submit your name.”
Said the news release, “The annual selections are made using a rigorous multi-phase process based on verdicts, settlements, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, special licenses and certifications, position within (a) law firm, bar and other professional activity, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and writings, education and employment background, and other outstanding achievements.”
Currently president of the East Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Goudarzi “has received numerous record verdicts and settlements throughout the state,” the news release said.
His practice involves representing “victims in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, including commercial trucking and auto negligence, product liability, workplace injury and premises liability,” the news release said.
His firm, Goudarzi and Young, has represented more than 9,000 individuals from all over the state, the release said.
Goudarzi, 43, grew up in Gilmer, where he has practiced law 15 years. A graduate of the Texas Tech School of Law, he is a 1988 graduate of Gilmer High School and the son of Virginia Young Goudarzi of Gilmer.
He and his wife, the former Leslie McQueen, have a son, Dain, 13, and daughter, Zoe, 10.
Goudarzi is also on the Board of Directors of, and a Fellowship Member of, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and a member of the American Assn. for Justice, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and the Honorable T. John Ward American Inn of Court.
