HOUSTON, TX (OCTOBER 18) - Daniel Miller, President of the Texas Nationalist Movement, threw down the gauntlet to Congressman Ted Poe this morning on a Houston morning radio show over the issue of Texas independence.
Miller was a guest on the Matt Patrick Show on Newsradio 740 KTRH. During the first segment of the interview, Patrick commented that since the latest presidential debate, he had received several comments from listeners regarding the need for Texas to secede. He then played a clip from Congressman Ted Poe where he was asked if Texas had the right to secede. Congressman Poe responded that Texas did not as “the issue was decided after the Civil War”.
After playing the clip, Patrick asked Miller if the Congressman was right. Miller responded emphatically with a challenge to the sitting Congressman.
“I will go toe-to-toe in public any day with Ted Poe over the issue of Texas independence.”
This challenge is similar to the very public debate challenge issued by Miller to several Democrat legislators in the last session of the Texas Legislature. They declined.
Miller followed up his challenge by citing his surprise that a “conservative” would take a position that is not backed up by law, history and the Constitution.
“I’ve studied the issues of Texas independence, including secession, for 16 years and find it offensive that a conservative would the Congressman’s position on the issue of Texas independence,” Miller stated.
The remainder of the interview was a defense of the rights of the people of Texas and the sovereignty of the State of Texas and concluded with a promise from Patrick to bring both Congressman Poe and Miller back on the show to debate the issue.
Daniel Miller is President of the Texas Nationalist Movement which is the largest organization dedicated to the political, cultural and economic independence of Texas.
