Stars officers win numerous awards

The Gilmer Stars Drill Team officers won numerous awards in competition Saturday.

They competed in the Mesquite Showtime International competition.

Awards they received included Sweepstakes, Judge’s Award (90 score or above on 3 routines), Runner Up-Best Jazz routine, Runner Up-Best Lyrical routine, Winner-Modern routine and Runner-Up (Best in Class)

They won the Grand Champion Circle Winner award by scoring at least a 93 or above score on all three routines.

Individual Honors included:

• Cara Davidson – 1 rating on solo and finishing 3rd runner- up among high school students in 10th to 12th grade.

• Kirsten Davis (sophomore)—1 rating on solo, and Grace Farrow (sr.)—1 rating on solo. Miss Davis, a line member, competed and won the Kickmaster championship among high school students in 10th to 12th grades.

The Gilmer Stars have received the Sweepstakes awards for 26 years.

The Stars’ next performance will be their annual spring show at the Gilmer Civic Center May 3rd and 4th, titled “Stars—Simply the Best.”
