JEFFERSON - The Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library's St. Patrick's Day celebration will be in the library's beautifully restored ballroom, Saturday, March 16 from 5:30 P.M. to 9:00 P. M. The $25.00 ticket price will include a buffet with Irish cuisine and Dan Smelser at the piano bar performing live music for singing and dancing. Free green beer will be furnished by Historic Jefferson Railway, and both individuals and merchants will contribute items for a silent auction.
The century-old Greek-Revival Jefferson Carnegie Library building has a second-story ballroom that reflects the grandeur and beauty of the South's Anti-bellum era.
This spacious area has been recently updated and is accessible by either stairs or elevator. The addition of a kitchen assures that food can be served easily and at proper temperatures.
Dan Smelser is one of East Texas' most talented and versatile pianists. His venue for this event will feature an old fashioned sing-along piano bar and music for dancing. Musical selections will include Irish favorites, show tunes, music from the jazz/big-band era and other selections from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Historic Jefferson Railway will furnish Free Green Beer.
The event includes a full food buffet with emphasis on Irish cuisine. Favorite Emerald Isle recipes of Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library will be featured. Food will be served from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M.
Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended although not required. Groups can arrange for tables of eight to ten. Call (903) 665-8911 for reservations. Tickets are available at the Carnegie Library, 301 W. Lafayette, Jefferson, Texas.
The Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library is the fund-raising arm of the Carnegie Library Board of Directors. The Friends hold several events yearly that make it possible for library enthusiasts to have a good time while supporting the library. Fund-raising celebrations include a Fourth-of-July Cake Auction, a Fall Golf Tournament, the New-Year's-Eve Dance and the coming St. Patrick's Day party. Becky DeWare is the current Friends' president.
The Jefferson Carnegie Library sponsors many educational programs for Marion County's youth and adults.
