FUNDRAISING IS UNDER WAY for a proposed Splash Pad for the Yamboree Park, off U.S. 271 N. in Gilmer. The Gilmer City Council has given Willie Grant, a member of the city’s Park Advisory Board, the go-ahead to seek donations for the construction of the pad, which would provide summer recreation for young people without the drawbacks of a swimming pool. For example, it would be less expensive to construct, and lifeguards would not be needed. The project is expected to cost $200,000 or more. Those wishing to contribute may either pledge support, in writing, to Grant, or make a donation by check made out to the City of Gilmer—Splash Pad Project. Funds will be maintained by the city in a separate account and will be accounted for at all times. For more information, contact either city manager Jeff Ellington or city secretary Kathy Hoover at 903-843-2552, or Grant at 903-843-3683. This picture shows a splash pad in White Oak.
