LONGVIEW, Texas, September 13, 2012:  Residents of Buckner Westminster Place, an active senior living community in Longview, Texas, delivered cakes, cookies, and pies they made to Longview firefighters on September 11th.  On this 11th anniversary of 9/11 a former Gilmer resident, Don Williams, enjoyed taking part in the tribute to all of the first responders and Americans lost that tragic day. He was among a dozen Buckner Westminster Place residents who spent time thanking the firefighters for the work they do to keep the community safe.

“It was inspiring to see the seniors and our staff members collaborate andput together such a meaningful event,” said Blake Lambert, marketing and sales director, Buckner Westminster Place. “Fire Station 6 has always arrived at the drop of a hat to assist our residents. The residents wanted to commemorate 9/11, and the seniors thought that showing their gratitude to the local fire department would be a special way to do it.”

Assisted living residents, independent living residents and staff members delivered a dozen baked goods they made themselves along with a dozen Papa Murphy’s pizzas to firefighters at Longview Fire Station 6. The residents wanted their local heroes to know how much they appreciate what they do every day to keep Longview residents safe.

“The Longview Fire Department appreciates that the local residents recognize that we are a part of the firefighter brotherhood.  Even though we were not at the scene of 9/11, we make the same sacrifices every day,” said Johnny Zackary, fire marshal and public information officer, Longview Fire Department. “September 11th has not been forgotten, and we will always remember the sacrifices that those firefighters and their families made.”
