The Kilgore College Ranger Band will perform in the Natchitoches, La. Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5, representing the college and the city of Kilgore.

“We will play traditional marches, Christmas selections and jazz selections,” said Wayne Smith, KC Band Director. “We’ll also play a few specialty tunes to entertain the crowd along the route of the parade.”

According to the festival’s Web site (www.christmasfestival.com), the event is one of the oldest community-based holiday celebrations in the nation, drawing in excess of 100,000 visitors each year for the parade, live entertainment and fireworks show overlooking the Cane River Lake.

The city of Kilgore is a sister city in the Holiday Trail of Lights with Natchitoches, Shreveport, Marshall and Kilgore.

The band is a guest of the Natchitoches Chamber of Commerce who is covering full costs of transportation and meals.

Following the parade, Smith said the students will have tme to visit downtown to experience the festival and view the traditional fireworks display that officially opens the festival.

“With Kilgore being one of the sister cities on the trail of lights, it is especially fitting that we are able to perform there on that day,” Smith said.

The parade is set for 1 p.m.
