The other day I was at the store and the elderly lady ahead of me was paying with a check. As soon as I saw her whip out the checkbook, I knew she was going to be a long time. She wrote the check wrong because she too busy talking about the weather with the cashier. I was in quite a rush and I was fuming on the inside. I guess you would call me animpatient person. Once she finished her transaction, I paid for my items and rushed out the store. As I was leaving I noticed the elderly lady had not even made it to her car. I put my items in my car and went up to the lady that had made my blood boil and said, “here let me load up your car for you.”
I asked her where she wanted the two cases of water and put them where she requested. She then changed her mind and wanted them somewhere else, so I followed her instructions. I loaded her other items and she thanked me profusely. I did this because my mother taught me well.
I saw a story on the Internet from bakersfield.now, a news station in California where a family said they were shocked when a good samaritan helped them when they had a flat tire. They weren’t expecting a stranger to help them. In the story, the family says their attitudes have changed because of the good samaritans help. When the family offered the womansome money, she refused. I think that is a wonderful story. However, I would like to live in a world where it is not amazing but a very common event.
I felt bad that I let my impatience get the best of me. I am glad that my mother’s training allowed me to correct that mistake. Sometimes its okay to make mistakes, what you do after the mistake is what counts.
