Upshur County Libertarian Party Chairman Vance Lowry told the monthly meeting of his party here Tuesday night the "clamor" against American military involvement in Syria is a Libertarian view.

"We don't believe in getting involved in other people's business. . .especially their civil wars," Lowry told the gathering at the Buckeye Country Cafe.

Added Libertarian Billy Joe Roberts, "Besides that, there's no good sides" in Syria's civil war.

Lowry then said he was "gratified to see" that the American people are becoming "more and more Libertarian in their foreign policy outlook...(of being) non-interventionist."

The Libertarians met shortly before President Obama addressed the nation Tuesday night concerning America's possible military intervention in Syria.

On another topic, Lowry said he is talking with three unnamed prospective Libertarian candidates for Upshur County elective office in the 2014 election, but "we're still researching that."

Roberts, discussing the fact the Upshur County Commissioners Court voted to raise its tax rate earlier that day, said, "That's why (Republican Pct. 4 Comm.) Mike (Spencer) didn't show up for tonight's meeting, I guarantee you. He didn't want an earful."

Addressing yet another matter, Lowry criticized the Tea Party movement, saying it is being "more and more co-opted by what I call the Christian Taliban" and that it is "leaning more and more toward a Christian theocracy type belief."

He additionally announced that he and Morris County Libertarian Chairwoman Gloria Davis, who attended Tuesday's gathering, will attend training for their party's county chairmen in Dallas Sept. 28.
