NACOGDOCHES—Harmony’s Lady Eagles softball squad claimed the area championship last Thursday and Friday nights in Nacogdoches, as they blanked the Woodville Lady Eagles, 3-0, 7-0, in a best-of-three series.

Harmony’s Courtney Matulis tossed back-to-back no-hitters in going the distance in the circle for the victorious Lady Eagles. She struck out eight Woodville batters in Friday’s game and fanned 11 in Thursday opener.

Matulis was backed by a strong offensive performance by the Harmony hitters. Mariah Gougen was 6-for-6 in the series with three home runs including two round-trippers and a double in Friday’s contest.

In Thursday’s opening contest, Keirsten Seahorn had a double, single, and a RBI.

Cailee Davidson added two hits and two RBIs. Jodi Hoelscher also had two hits for Harmony.

Harmony improves its season record to 17-10 with the two wins against Woodville. Harmony will face District 18-2A foe Troup in the regional quarterfinal playoff this Friday and Saturday at Lear Park in Longview.

Harmony split their district regular season games with Troup.
