(LONGVIEW, Texas)—LeTourneau University will present Micah Bournes, musician and poet during chapel at 10:50 a.m. and again in a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave.
Bournes grew up in Long Beach, Calif. He was immersed in hip-hop music and that influence is clearly seen through his personal journey of artistic expression. He began blending and bending genres as he incorporated spoken word poetry, rhythm and blues, and funk into his music.
Bournes has performed at university campuses across the United States. He twice won first place at the intercollegiate National Religious Broadcasters Competition and competes in poetry slams across the country. The knowledge that he is only made righteous by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross is a message at the heart of the work that drives him to always keep creating.
