Annual event highlights healthy eating habits, school nutrition professionals

 

AUSTIN — Citing the importance of a healthy diet and the need to reverse the obesity trend, the Texas Department of Agriculture encourages parents and students to celebrate National School Lunch Week, Oct. 15-19.

 

This year’s National School Lunch Week theme, “School Lunch – What’s Cooking?” is designed to help students understand the benefits of a well-balanced diet, including fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains and dairy. The week also highlights the work of school nutrition professionals who offer well-balanced meals to Texas children throughout the school year.

 

Serving more than 31 million children every school day, the federally-funded National School Lunch Program provides nutritionally balanced, healthy meals.
