Karen Bunn has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for Upshur County District Clerk in the party’s March 4 primary.

Mrs. Bunn, 53, has worked for the District Clerk’s Office as a deputy for nearly eight years, and said in a press release that “I have full working knowledge of each, and every duty performed in” the office.

Retiring District Clerk Carolyn Parrott has endorsed the candidacy of Mrs. Bunn, who so far has only one opponent, former Smith County Sheriff’s Deputy Kathryn J. Wilson.

Mrs. Bunn attended Hallsville Schools, Kilgore College, and worked at Texas Bank and Trust in Gladewater before joining the District Clerk’s Office. She has lived in Latch Community for 22 years, and is married to lifelong Upshur Countian Gene Bunn.

Asked about her specific goals for the District Clerk’s Office, she said they include providing a “smooth transition” to the state’s mandatory “e-filing” system in the next two years. The system allows lawyers to file documents by computer.

Another goal, she said, includes digitizing (putting on disc) all of the office’s records that are now on microfilm because the quality of some of the microfilm is not good.

Mrs. Bunn said she also wanted to “establish a culture of providing excellent customer service.”
