KC qualifies for round two of Aspen Prize based on student completion, consistent improvement, equity in outcomes of all racial backgrounds


Kilgore College is one of only 150 community colleges that qualified to move on to the second round of the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.


The 150 eligible institutions were chosen from 1,005colleges nationwide, representing 37 states.


A $1 million prize will be awarded in early 2015 to one community college.


All 150 colleges chosen for the second round demonstrated strong outcomes in three areas of student success:


1) Rate of students' persistence, completion and transfer

2) Consistent improvement in outcomes over time

3) Equity in outcomes for students of all racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.


The prize is funded by the Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC.


Ten finalists will be broadly publicized in fall 2014.



KC is one of 17 community colleges in Texas chosen to qualify to move on to round two.
