Jefferson’s Sanctuary Players perform John, His Story
Christmas is upon us. There is no better way to celebrate than to dive into the life of Jesus Christ, and the true meaning of Christmas. John, His Story, written by Jeanette Clift George, will be presented by Sanctuary Players Theatre Company under the direction of Sara Whitaker on December 13, 14, 15 & 16.
Performed at First United Methodist Church, 305 N. Henderson in Jefferson, Texas, John, His Story features a talented ensemble of actors from Jefferson and beyond. In the title of John is Hollis Shadden. Mr. Shadden, a photographer, is appearing in his third production with Sanctuary Players. “Hollis brings much dedication and exuberance to the rehearsal process. He has been committed to the role since auditions. I am encouraged by his performance,” states Whitaker.
Also featured in the cast is soprano Kathleen Thomas in her first Sanctuary Players production. Cherry Eldridge, Ellen Taylor and Nick Counts are back after their hilarious turns in The Red Velvet Cake War. Mason McNeely and Jesse Vinton return to the stage after appearing in Every 17 Minutes the Crowd Goes Crazy, performed in June. Also taking on various biblical characters are Maggie St. Denis, Jack McCormick, Daniel Grajeda, Sara Whitaker and Rev. Allison Byerley.
The central character of John reveals and explains seven of the miracles that Jesus Christ performs in the book of John. Be illuminated and filled as we experience Jesus turning water into wine, healing a blind and paralyzed man, feed 5000 hungry people, raising Lazarus from the dead, walking on water, being resurrected and returning to earth to encourage and instruct His disciples.
This play reminds us that God heals. He is still active and present in our lives. The bible is full of these stories, highlighted in John’s gospel. The central message is this: “These things are written so that you will believe that Jesus is the Christ, God’s Son, and that believing, you will have life in His name.” John 20:31. It is a free gift offered to us all.
First United Methodist Church will be serving baked chicken, vegetables, salad and dessert prior to the performance in the sanctuary. On Thursday and Friday, December 13 & 14, supper will be served at 6pm with the play at 7:30. On Saturday and Sunday, December 15 & 16, dinner will be served at 12:30 with the performance following at 2 pm. Tickets are $20.
