James Cameron Spencer, son of Kathy Todd of Gilmer and James Spencer of Hallsville, and grandson of Trudy Baker of Longview and Bob and Carrie Fulsom of Gilmer, recently completed Marine training at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Spencer successfully completed 12 weeks of training in August, designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally, then started his second phase of training in September at Camp Pendleton.

He graduated ITB training on Nov. 12.

Spencer spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments — including learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training.

He also received instruction in Marine Corps’ core values — honor, courage and commitment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.

After graduation from San Diego, he will be temporarily stationed in Shrevport, La.

Spencer is a 2009 graduate of East Texas Charter School.
