The East Texas chapter of TOWN (Texas Outdoors Woman Network) will be sponsoring Introduction to Dutch Oven Cooking on Saturday, March 8th from 9 a.m. until about 1 p.m. at the Arnold Event Center on Lantana Road in Gilmer. There is no charge for this class but pre-registration is required.

Class will focus on fundamentals of dutch oven cooking (sometimes called camp ovens or black pots), care and seasoning, discussion of the different types of pots as well as a practical demo where participants can sample the food prepared in the demo.

TOWN East Texas meets the last Tuesday of each month at Tele’s Mexican Restaurant, 401 S. Tyler St. (Hwy 271 S), Gladewater at 6 p.m.

TOWN is an off shoot of the Becoming An Outdoors Woman (BOW) workshops initiated by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Currently, there are groups in several major cities across Texas. While each group is independent, they share the same mission: To provide all women the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities in a safe, non-threatening and supportive environment. Membership is open to all women 18 and older and you may attend 2 meetings or 2 outings before deciding to join.

For more information to pre-register for the class, email Nancy Hudgins, Coordinator at, or phone 903.843.2914. You can also visit our website at
