The Gilmer Buckeyes 2013 Homecoming Friday night will be something special.
It is going to be a celebration of the 100th season of Gilmer High School football.
Compliments of First National Bank of Gilmer, there will be a pregame barbecue for football alumni who come back. It will be held at the Gilmer High School Cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m.
A number of former coaches of the Buckeyes have already said they are coming as well.
A football player has been selected from each class going back as far as 1944 to be honored on behalf of his class of the Gilmer Buckeyes or Bruce Dragons. Former coaches will be honored as well.
This ceremony will take place on the field at Buckeye Stadium at halftime.
“We’re really excited. We’ve got about 85 men committed to coming back right now,” said Gilmer head coach and athletic director Jeff Traylor on Monday.
The Buckeyes will play the Daingerfield Tigers, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Homecoming royalty will be presented before the game.
All who have ever had a connection to Gilmer and/or Bruce schools and the Buckeyes/Dragons are encouraged to “be true to your school” and attend this memorable event.
