Health was the topic of the day when members of the Twentieth Century Club met in the lovely country home of Mikie Clark on April 18. The roll call for the day was “The healthy thing I resolve to do each year....” While most of the responses dealt with food and exercise, several members humorously described why they do not make health resolutions.

Jean Hamil, President conducted the business meeting including an announcement that the annual Spring Luncheon will be at Barron’s in Longview on May 2. Membership Chairman Melinda Smith regretfully read a resignation request from Tami Moler who has recently moved to Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Hamil introduced Annette Breazeale who presented a book review of Drop Dead Healthy by A. J. Jacobs. The humorous book describes the author’s quest to make himself healthy in 2012. He carefully explains 26 body parts and functions and how he, personally, worked on each part to improve his well-being. His journey also offers a glimpse into his personal life including conversations with his wife and the death of his very healthy grandfather. A number of health tips and guidelines are also mentioned throughout the book. In, the end, while he hasn’t reached every goal, Mr.Jacob describes himself as a much healthier person and is pleased with his results.

Following the adjournment of the meeting, Mrs. Clark invited her guests to the bountiful tea table where Carlton Ritz Cracker Chicken, Baked Sweet Potato Chips, Oven Roasted Asparagus, Crimson Cheese Bites, Ginger Pumpkin Muffins, assorted fruit cups, almond tea and coffee were served.
