HARMONY—Harmony’s Lady Eagles claimed a share of the District 18-AA basketball championship last Tuesday night with a 35-18 victory over the West Rusk Lady Raiders.

The game, played in Eagle Gym, was the final regular- season game for both teams.

Harmony tied with Sabine for first place in district competition, as both teams sport identical 11-3 conference records.

The district co-champs were to meet on Friday night at Spring Hill to determine playoff seeding.

The first half of Tuesday’s game against West Rusk was a defensive struggle by both teams. The Lady Eagles held a narrow 6-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 12-9 halftime advantage.

Harmony increased its lead to double digits at the end of the third, 23-13, as West Rusk’s offensive woes continued. Keirsten Seahorn took all the energy from the Lady Raiders at the beginning of the fourth quarter as she hit a long 3-pointer and was fouled on the shot.

She promptly sank the free-throw to complete the 4-point play, which virtually put the game away for the Lady Eagles.

Seahorn took game high-point honors as she tossed in 17 points for Harmony. She also had 11 rebounds to complete a double-double. Teammates Amy Allen and Bailey Rhodes added six points each for the victors.

The boys’ varsity game between Harmony and West Rusk was a “barn burner” contest, with Harmony prevailing, 62-58, in overtime.

The teams were tied, 9-9, at the end of the first quarter, but a late first-half flourish by the Eagles gave them a 29-18 halftime lead. The Raiders battled back to narrow the Harmony lead to seven points at the end of three periods.

West Rusk was hitting on all cylinders in the fourth stanza, as the Raiders took a 50-47 lead with six seconds to play in regulation, but Harmony’s Alan Peralta sank a 3-point, buzzer beater from the top of the key, to send the game into overtime, tied at 50-all.

The Eagles used Peralta’s heroic shot to carry momentum into the overtime frame, as the Eagles notched their third district win of the season.

Peralta was Harmony’s leading scorer with 19 points. Seth Seabolt added 17 for the Eagles. Harmony was to play at Hawkins on Friday night.
