The Upshur County Grand Jury returned 34 indictments—15 of them sealed-—and no-billed two cases on Dec. 22, said District Attorney Billy Byrd.
Bonds were set by 115th District Judge Lauren Parish.
Defendants, charges and bonds in the open indictments were as follows, Byrd’s office said:
• Taura Rochelle Whitt, 23, of Gladewater, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) on Oct. 10, $7,000.
• Willie Leonard Wesley, 44, of Hawkins, driving while intoxicated; subsequent offense on Oct. 23, $20,000.
• James Chris Adkinson, 25, of Gladewater, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (methamphetamine) on Oct. 28, $35,000.
• Denny Scott Wortham, 39, of Big Sandy, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (methamphetamine) on Oct. 28, $35,000,
• Terry Wayne Smith, 44, of Lindale, driving while intoxicated, subsequent offense on Sept. 29, $10,000.
• Michael Ryan Colwell, who turns 23 on Jan. 5 and is from Longview, driving while intoxicated, subsequent offense on June 19, $10,000
• Stephen D. Ford, 49, of Longview, theft of property of the value of $1,500 or more but less than $20,000 on Aug. 28, under $10,000 bond in the Upshur County Jail.
• Steven Radon Allen, 23, of Mt. Pleasant, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information on Feb. 2. Allen was arrested by Titus County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant on June 17. (No information on bond was shown on Byrd’s report).
• Edee Coleen Hurst, 49, of Splendora, evading arrest or detention with vehicle on Oct. 31, $7,500.
• Deana Moore Garriott, 52, of Gilmer, possession of marijuana on Oct. 28, $10,000.
• Alton Ray Easley, 54, of Gilmer, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in a drug-free zone-(heroin) on Oct. 23, in the county jail under $150,000 bond.
• Jarvis Hill, 28, of Cedar Hill, aggravated robbery on Sept. 30. Bond was set at $100,000, but he was released to the Fannin County Jail.
• John Franklin Sartain, Jr., 46, of Gilmer, sexual assault of a child on Dec. 19, 2008, $50,000.
• Harrison Allan Kivela, 18, of Gilmer, aggravated sexual assault of a child on Oct. 17, in county jail under $500,000 bond.
• Patrick D. Smith, 35, of Gilmer, assault-family violence with prior conviction. Smith is accused of committing the act June 7, and bond was set at $3,500.
• Herbert Hobgood, 18, of Gilmer, sexual assault of a child on Sept. 8, in county jail under $40,000 bond.
• Stewart Lee Hunter, 32, of Gilmer, failure to register as sex offender on Nov. 2, $5,000.
• Virginia Jackson McPeek, 46, of Gilmer, separately indicted on charges of prohibited substance in correctional facility and possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. She is charged with committing both offenses on Sept. 21; bond was set at $10,000 per charge.
The sealed indictments included two for burglary of a habitation; one for securing execution of document by deception, two for theft of property of the value of $1,500 or more but less than $20,000, one for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two for evading arrest or detention with vehicle, two for indecency with a child.
Also, one each for sexual assault of a child, possession of child pornography, and interference with emergency call with previous conviction, and two for theft of property of the value of $20,000 or more but less than $100,000, the office said.
The no-billed cases involved a charge of injury to a child and a charge of deadly conduct, Byrd’s office reported.
