Paris shut out Gilmer, 4-0, Friday night at Northeast Texas Community College's Eagle Field in the opening game of a best-of-three series to decide the Area baseball champion.

Gilmer returned the favor, 3-0, at Paris Junior College's Hub Hollis Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Buckeyes then edged the Wildcats, 4-3, in the third and deciding game, also at Hub Hollis Field.

Bryce Tomlin shut out the Wildcats in Game Two and also started Game Three and pitched two more scoreless innings. Colton Hendrix got the win in relief in Game Three.

The Buckeyes advance to take on the Spring Hill Panthers in the next round of the Class 3A baseball playoffs. The Panthers won two of three over the Rains Wildcats this weekend. Spring Hill finished third in District 16-3A. Gilmer is District 16-3A champion.

Game One is scheduled for Friday night, May 17, at the Field of Dreams on the campus of Pine Tree High School in Longview. Game Two will begin at either 1 or 2 p.m. (better get there by 1) Saturday afternoon, also at the Field of Dreams. Game Three, if necessary, will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game Two.

The Buckeyes and Panthers have already faced each other three times this season, with Gilmer winning two of the three games. They split during district play, while Gilmer won the other game during a tournament.
