Gilmer 20, Kilgore 14

The Gilmer Buckeyes led on the scoreboard most of the game, but it went down to the wire at Buckeye Stadium as the Black Flag Defense made a stand near the goalline in the final minute of play to preserve a 20-14 win for Gilmer over the Kilgore Bulldogs and the outright District 16-3A championship.

Dylan Bowman batted away a Cooper Coldiron pass in the end zone on fourth down from the 5 to seal the deal.

It is the Buckeyes' 11th district title in the last 12 seasons. Every time they have won district over that time span, they have gone undefeated in district play.

Gilmer (6-0, 9-1) will play the Canton Eagles (5-1, 8-2) of District 15-3A in a Class 3A Division II Region II bi-district game in Tyler. Kickoff at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. The Buckeyes are the home team.

Kilgore goes into Division I and will play Athens next. Henderson, the second seed in Division II from 16-3A, will face Van.
