For the last 40 years George Boutwell has been touring Texas showing his Art and looking for interesting things to paint. George got inspired with the diversity of Texas when he was Art Director of Texas Highway's Magazine from 1966 to 1972. George has just published a book about his life and travels to over 2000 Art Shows titled "Texas in my Windshield" which features 182 Paintings and 192 pages of stories! In 1986 he got the Idea to produce a Texas Calendar featuring his Art Work and Publish it himself. The Calendar has become very popular because it changes themes every year and portrays a different aspect of the State of Texas. George's Calendar for 2013 features Old Cafes that are at least 50 years old and still have their vintage look surrounded with lots of Classic Cars. George grew up a "Redneck Kid in Texas in the 1950's!" He became aware that much of the culture of the 1950's was rapidly vanishing. Neon Signs were being replaced by Back Lit Plastic, businesses that reflected the personality of the owners were being replaced by ones that all looked alike and it all would soon be lost. George has embarked on a quest to chronicle this fading era that he had lived through, with the Gas Stations, Drive Inns, Motels, Dance Halls and the other Icons of the disappearing Culture. Every other year, George produces a Calendar that has the vanishing 50's culture theme and in the alternating years the theme is more scenic (as in last year's Republic of Texas Tree Calendar) His 2011 Calendar had paintings of Classic Texas Motels with lots of Classic Cars. George has produced over 100 Paintings depicting the "Vanishing 1950's Culture and will have prints of them available at his show. In 2005 George was chosen by the Texas State Legislature and the Texas Commission on the Arts to be the 2006 Texas State Artist in the Category of Two Dimensional Art! George will be showing his work at The Texas Wild Bunch Art Show at the Canton Marketplace. George will be signing his recently released book "Texas in my Windshield" which is an Autobiography and a series of short stories and 182 Paintings that document 40 years of exploring Texas and over 2000 Art Shows!
