Gilmer Intermediate School recently held our 3rd annual fifth grade Science- A- Thon at Gilmer Intermediate School. This special event offered opportunities for all 5th grade students to work together in cooperative learning groups to collaboratively solve science questions about Earth, Life, and Physical Science. In small groups, students discussed and shared their understanding of each concept as they worked together solving selected problems from their packet. They earned points for each question solved correctly and could earn bonus points for team effort, strategies shown, and maintaining positive attitudes. At the end of two hours, the groups with the highest overall scores won. If there was a tie, the bonuses were the tie breakers. This was a fun, challenging way to apply concepts learned in Earth, Life, and Physical Science this year. Austin Bank generously sponsored this event and are much appreciated. Fifth grade science teachers, Sandra Southwell and Julie Moon awarded the following winners with trophies. 1st place- Tristen Haakonson, Mary Reese, Taylor Lord and Diamond Fluellen 2nd place-Molly Sullivan, Marcy Low, Dayton Shepherd 3rd place- Matthew Faggione, Meleah Moore, Dalton Henson 4th place- Nicholas Hamilton, Eddie Ray, Jordan Gilberg 5th place-Livi Ogle, Harlee Gray, Judy Castenada 6th place- Savannah Fitch, Brooklyn Smith, Porfirio Abundiz
