The service was led by an all-scout cast. Nick Sorrells, Dwight Cook, Lucas Smith, Molly Sullivan, and Jessica Taylor served as greeters and ushers. The Flag Corps included Matthew Sinclair presenting the national colors, with Miranda Collier presenting the Texas Flag. The Christian Flag was presented by Lily Stubbert. Scouting Flags were presented by Shannon Hobbs, Dylan Guidry and Cody Guidry. The scouts led the audience in pledging allegiance to the United States, Texas, and Christian Flags.
Mrs. Chandra Sorrells introduced and conducted the program. Mrs. Sorrels, the director of the Children’s Ministry at FUMC, also serves as the charter organization representative, a liaison between the scouting organizations and the church. All Eagle Scouts and their parents were recognized, including Raymond Sorrells, who achieved his Eagle in December 2013. Mr. Sorrells served as lay reader for the service.
Mrs. Paula Tefteller, leader of Girl Scout Troop 3614, recognized three girl scouts for achieving the Girl Scout Bronze Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. These hard-working scouts included Molly Sullivan, Emma Albright, and Becky Wisdom.
The Joy Ringers Handbell Choir, including scout members Raymond Sorrells, Nick Sorrells, and Molly Sullivan, performed “This is My Father’s World” accompanied by Mr. Bill Marshall on piano.
Leaders who helped organize and attended Sunday’s program included: Nathan Todd, Kim Cook, Cam Corcoran, Chandra and Jeff Sorrells, Kendra Pierce, Thomas Truitt, Paula Tefteller and Miranda Fatherree.
More than 250 people attended the service and enjoyed a cake and punch reception following.
