JUST A SPARK carried on the breeze was all it took to start this wildfire in the woods northeast of Bessie Mapp’s home on Hwy. 155 north of Barnwell Mountain. Engulfed in flames are the riding lawn mower and her late husband’s truck and tools which she had kept for sentimental reasons. The Gilmer and New Mountain Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the Thursday afternoon blaze. Wildfires and grass fires have kept fire fighters in Upshur County very busy.
