East Texas Youth Chorus seeking home-schooled students for spring choir
The East Texas Youth Chorus, open to home-schooled youth ages 13 and up, is seeking singers for the spring.
“The youth chorus offers home-schooled youth an excellent fine arts component to their academic schedules, and the opportunity to sing great music with friends in a challenging but fun setting that prepares for college singing,” said Jim Taylor, director of the ETYC and KC’s Director of Choral Activities.
Membership is for boys with changed voices and girls, ages 13 and up. Singers must demonstrate in a brief audition that they can carry a tune. .
Cost to join the choir is $50. Juniors and seniors can also enroll for dual credit for an additional dual enrollment fee.
The chorus will rehearse 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Center, beginning Jan. 16. Singers may join through the end of February.
Registration will take place at the rehearsal room during the first few rehearsals.
Section leaders from the KC Chorale will assist the chorus, helping to learn the music, providing vocal support and serving as role models for the students.
The ETYC will present a concert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview.
The concert will feature musical styles ranging from classical to popular, giving the students experience with a broad range of music that will prepare them for singing on the college level.
The ETYC is part of KC’s Continuing Education Department.
