--Clinic facility gets facelift--

Gilmer, Texas – Two new providers—Elsa Robles, RN, MSN, FNP-C, and Scott W. Holland, MD-- recently joined the team at the ETMC First Physicians clinic in Gilmer.

Robles is a certified family nurse practitioner. As such, she treats patients of all ages, and has a particular interest in women’s health and offers well-woman checkups. “There are certain cultures that don’t allow for women to have those exams by male providers,” she said. “I’m hoping to create a safe place for them.”

She grew up in a Spanish-speaking home and believes that gives her added insight that benefits her patients. “I’m not just bilingual, I’m bicultural. I understand other perspectives and I think that’s a real benefit for this community.”

Robles earned both her bachelor’s degree in nursing and her master of science in nursing, family nurse practitioner, degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the East Texas Nurse Practitioners Association.

Dr. Holland always knew he wanted to work with kids, so becoming a pediatrician was a natural step for him. “I’m a pediatric person. Kids just look at me and know it. I enjoy working with their parents, too, answering questions and explaining in layman’s terms what to expect.”

For Dr. Holland, the ETMC First Physicians clinic in Gilmer is the perfect blend of profession and place, as he regards East Texas as home. “It’s home for my family, and it was time to get back to a place where I can do things like ride horses, start a garden and go fishing.”

Dr. Holland earned his bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He has extensive experience working as a pediatric hospitalist and pediatric emergency physician.  He is a member of the Texas Medical Association. He also is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Holland and Robles are both accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment with either, call 903-841-7300. Dr. Holland accepts CHIP/Children’s Medicaid and most private insurance. Robles accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most insurance plans.

“We are very excited to welcome Ms. Robles and Dr. Holland to our clinic,” said Jorge Leal, administrator of ETMC Gilmer. “They both bring broad experience to their practices that will benefit their patients. I believe that they are both tremendous assets to ETMC Gilmer and our community as a whole.”

In addition to two new providers, visitors to the ETMC First Physicians clinic in Gilmer may notice some other changes. The clinic recently underwent some renovations. New paint, baseboards and carpet throughout the clinic has brightened the space making it more welcoming for guests and staff.
