MARSHALL, Texas (12/04/13) – East Texas Baptist University is expanding the services of its Counseling Care Center (CCC). Since the CCC opened a year ago, services were provided mostly to students and employees of the University and services were offered to community individuals on limited bases.  The CCC, located in the ETBU Mamye Jarrett Library, will now expand counseling care to the Marshall community beginning on January 6, 2014.

“Our services to the community in the past had a two to four week wait. Now, a person should be able to receive services within 24 hours,” said ETBU Associate Professor of Counseling Dr. Tom Haygood. “We do not receive emergency situations or any serious psychological disorder. The service pertains to typical relationship difficulties, stress, depression, anxiety, and parenting.”

The center has been staffed by Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) since its opening.  ETBU now has a Master of Counseling program which allows graduate students to provide counseling not only to ETBU but members of the Marshall community as well. The CCC is also staffed by a clinical psychologist, ETBU Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences Dr. Gerald Nissley.

Low-cost counseling and psychological services, including therapy and psychological assessment is provided by licensed counselors, a licensed clinical psychologist, and practicum and internship students who are being supervised in their clinical training for licensure.

The CCC will have regular office hours and can receive walk-ins beginning on Jan. 6th.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 903-923-2360.
