Course is under the blade at Heath Golf & Yacht Club east of Dallas
Bechtol’s latest signature design is set on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard
HEATH, Texas (Jan. 20, 2018) – After 10 years of waiting, stops and starts, and anticipation, bulldozer operators are now hard at work shaping the Roy Bechtol Signature golf course at Heath Golf & Yacht Club, set 20 minutes east of Dallas on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard.
Current plans are for grassing on the 7,169-yard, par-72 course to begin in August with the track opening for play in summer 2019.
Bechtol, who also master planned the community and has his noted and skilled handiwork on every part of the development, has walked the land here dozens of times since the community and course were first planned in 2007. He has found a splendid routing that encompasses more than 200 acres and takes advantage of the natural ground offerings as well as the site’s trees, creeks and ponds.
“This course is set on the family ranchland once owned by Texas governor Bill Clements and has all the earmarks of great land conservation and proper usage, even down to the way the property’s huge pastures drained eastward into its ponds and into the creeks that wind their way to the lake,” Bechtol said.
“We have great soil here and wonderful natural features,” Bechtol added. “We will use what we have on site to build a golf course that adheres to the special place Mother Nature has given us. It will be an incredible, fun and challenging course that’s worthy of the palate I have been given.”
Bechtol has more than 50 courses in his design portfolio, including the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin; Somersett in Reno, Nevada; Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, Louisiana; Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas; Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City; and The Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio.
He has carefully planned the fairways at Heath Golf & Yacht Club (heathgolfandyachtclub.com) to highlight the babbling creeks, ponds, woodlands, and vistas of Lake Ray Hubbard.
The course will be a blend of links and parkland designs and offer wide corridors and a pastoral setting. The core of the track is six holes wide, and with its deep home setbacks there will seldom be a rooftop in sight.
“The routing for Heath Golf & Yacht Club is very walkable and will have five tee boxes on each hole to offer a great golf experience and challenge for all levels of golfers,” Bechtol said. “It’s playable for juniors and less-experienced golfers but testing for the low-handicap players and professionals. Located in a wildlife corridor, the course has been designed to be fun and beautiful.”
The course at Heath Golf & Yacht Club will be the one of just two built since 2010 in the Dallas area. No stone will be left unturned to make sure the course is eventually mentioned on the short list of top courses in north Texas.
“This course was thoughtfully planned and will greatly increase the property values for our homeowners,” said Rob Whittle, developer of Heath Golf & Yacht Club. “Unlike most golf course communities, golfers will not see the homes along the fairways. This is very appealing to golfers and residents alike. The idea was to make it look like it’s been here for a long time.”
