The Clothes Closet has announced that it will not offer the Annual Coat Sale this year. The Clothes Closet, a mission of the First United Methodist Church – Gilmer, operates a resale store that takes donations from the local community. The donations are processed and sold to shoppers for very low prices. Most garments cost twenty-five cents apiece.

For the past several years, volunteers from FUMC-Gilmer collected all of the coats donated throughout the year and sponsored an annual coat sale. Hundreds of coats and other items of winter clothing would be offered up for sale in one location during this very popular event.

Recently, the space where the coat sale has been held has been renovated and is now in use throughout the week, making it unavailable for the annual coat sale. This does not mean that anyone in Upshur County should be without winter garments, however. Instead of having an annual coat sale, The Clothes Closet will be offering coats during its regular operating hours.

Coats and winter clothing will be available every Thursday and Saturday from 8 AM until NOON. For the next several weeks, lightweight jackets, hoodies, and sweaters will be offered. Beginning the last week of October and continuing through November, winter coats, hats, and gloves will be for sale. (The store will be closed October 17 – 19 for Yamboree.) Customers are encouraged to shop early and often for the best selection.
