Caitlin Reed wins scholarship

Caitlin Reed an honors student and freshman at New Diana High School was awarded a $1000 scholarship at the Academic Rodeo Award Ceremony this month. More than 1,200 students participated in this year’s event.


She was eligible to apply for the scholarship after placing 2nd overall in Art and 3rd overall, 1st place in specialty category, in the Fashion Show construction competitions. Caitlin submitted an essay detailing the moment that she realized a Veterinary Research Surgeon was the career she wanted to pursue.


She is an active member and President of the Circle V and Vet Science 4-H club. In addition, she also holds the office of President of the Upshur County 4-H County Council and New Diana 4-H club. Even though Caitlin is only 15 she has already logged almost 300 clinical veterinary hours under the guidance of Dr. Cherie Nazzal and Dr. Rob Thoni. She also volunteers each month at a low cost vaccination clinic. Caitlin is the daughter of Elizabeth and Norman Reed also of Diana.
