Buckeyes sweep all three games of pool play Thursday at Texas State 7 on 7 Championships

The Gilmer Buckeyes defeated the La Marque Cougars, 27-14, Thursday afternoon in the first 7 on 7 game in Pool J of Division II of the Texas State 7 on 7 Championships at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park.

The Buckeyes defeated Rockdale, 20-6, in the second game of the day. Then they won their third and final game of pool play against Wellington by the score of 39-12.

The Buckeyes will resume play in the championship bracket at 9 a.m. Friday morning against White Oak. The Roughnecks went 2-1 in pool play Thursday.

White Oak and Gilmer were the two qualifiers from the Gilmer State Qualifying Tournament held on June 15.

The Buckeyes are being coached by Stump Godfrey, who led Gilmer to the Class 3A Division I state championship in 2009.
