FRIDAY NIGHT is your last chance to see the juggernaut that is the 2013 Gilmer Buckeyes at Buckeye Stadium.

The Buckeyes (8-0, 4-0) will host the Bullard Panthers (3-4, 1-3). Bullard’s 34-10 loss at home to Henderson last Friday night means they must win their final two games to have any chance of making the playoffs.

But Gilmer is probably not going to let down enough to make that a realistic possibility. The Buckeyes have not lost a home game since Sept. 10, 2010, and haven’t lost a district game since Oct. 15, 2010.

Even with the temptation to look one week ahead to the Nov. 8 showdown on the road against undefeated Kilgore, the Buckeyes should still be able to focus on their opposition on Senior Night.

Coach Jeff Traylor said the Buckeyes “played really well” in their 71-13 win at Spring Hill last Friday night.

Then he went over some of the standouts on defense.

“Hunter Anderson had three tackles, two assists, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries.

“Josh Walker, five tackles, one assist.

“Ardarius Johnson, four tackles, one assist.

“And Korie Frazier had four tackles, two for a loss.”

Offensively, Tanner Barr played only the first half, but was sharp, hitting 12-of-17 for 196 yards and a touchdown through the air. He also rushed for 21 yards on four carries.

Kris Boyd had 99 yards on only seven carries and two touchdowns. He scored another touchdown on a 39-yard pass play.

Chase Tate carried twice for 69 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 20 yards. He was also superb on special teams, which is why he was selected as Player of the Week for that part of the game.

“He had an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He had two tackles on the kickoff coverage teams. He had two punt returns for 30 yards,” said Coach Traylor.

Kelton Collier carried twice for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Josh Walker had four carries for eight yards and two touchdowns.

Darrian Lewis carried six times for 37 yards and a touchdown and Devin Smith made 30 yards on his one carry.

Nick Smith had three catches for 28 yards.

Desmond Pollard made 55 yards on his three receptions.

Demarco Boyd caught two passes for 34 yards.

Quinn Fluellen caught two passes for 15 yards.

Turning to Bullard, Coach Traylor noted, “They lost a lot of players off last year’s team. They’re extremely well-coached. They’ve played good at times against some good people and they’ve played bad at times. So I’d say they’re an inconsistent team.”

Shannon Wilson is head coach of the Panthers and guided them three rounds deep in the playoffs two years ago. This is his fourth season at Bullard.

Coach Traylor said he didn’t think the Buckeyes will be looking ahead to the Kilgore game.

“I think since it’s our last home game with our seniors, I think we’ll be pretty ready to go.

“I’d be shocked if our seniors don’t go out there and try to play well their last home game.”

Panther quarterback Connor Mebane is “a good athlete,” he said.

“He throws the ball well. He runs the ball well. He’s a good little player.”

Connor was a wide receiver last year catching passes from his older brother, Colton Mebane, who has graduated.

One thing to watch for will be if running back Brentavian Henderson, who’s been hurt, is able to play for Bullard Friday night.

“If he plays, they’re a totally different ball club,” Traylor said.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Buckeye Stadium. As there was not a game here during October, this will be the 2013 Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness sponsored by the GHS Cheerleader Booster Club. For more information, go to http://buckeyepinkout.webs.com/ .
