The Gilmer High School Band competed at UIL Regional and Yamboree Marching Contests held last week and scored at the highest possible level, earning first division ratings from each individual judge at each contest. The band now will compete at the UIL Area level on Saturday, Oct. 27 (today) at Stephen F. Austin State University and the National Association of Military Marching Bands competition on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Bryan.

Judges’ comments about the band’s performance include: “Very precise and well executed drill. Great Attention to details. Very musical presentation. Great tone quality and excellent playing of all musical lines. Great low brass! Very mature and musical performance, excellent band sound! Good sounds throughout the band. Nice spirit and energy!”

“This has really been a great group of kids to work with. It seems like every place we have performed that people have really responded positively to what we have done. They are super-excited about competing at the next Area level. Basically the best 3A bands from this side of the state will be competing for a shot at marching at the UIL State Marching Contest in San Antonio. We are going to give it our best effort!” stated High School Band Director Eric Gray.
