A benefit will be held Sunday, Aug. 25, for Brady Smith, who was severely injured in a serious accident Aug. 2. He was airlifted to ETMC Tyler, where he underwent immediate surgery for injuries, including multiple skull fractures, several broken ribs, and a lacerated ear.

He had rolled his feed truck seven times out on FM 852. He either had a blowout, or an animal ran out in front of him. He had to have surgery to remove pressure on his brain.

He remained in ICU for several days before returning home. He does not have health insurance.

The benefit is a washer tournament, barbecue and live music. It will be held at Dubya’s BBQ on Old Coffeeville Road just east of U.S. 271 in Gilmer.

Registration for the washer tournament is 5 p.m., with food, music and the tournament starting at 6 p.m. There will be payouts for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Fifty dollars buys a 2-person washer team and food. Otherwise, it’s $10 a plate. Donations will be appreciated.

Smith, 32, and his wife Megan have two sons, ages 10 and 8.
