Most of us seek the easiest way to accomplish whatever we are pursuing.  In other words, a shortcut!  There are other times when we want a mental challenge.  This is where a brain teaser comes in handy.  A brain teaser is puzzle or problem whose solution requires cleverness on our part.  We have to really meditate in order to come up with the answer.  Riddles fall into the category of brain teasers.  Consider the following riddle:  If you take off my skin, I won’t cry, but you will cry.  Who or what am I?”  Think about this and try to come up with the answer.  I’ll provide the answer at the close of this article.  Try not to look down for the answer until you’ve mentally tried to come up with the answer on your own.

The expression:  “a no-brainer” is often heard now days.  It is that which requires little mental effort.  Politicians use it to indicate that the solution to a particular problem affecting their constituents is obvious.

The expression “a no-brainer” began here in the United States in the 1950s.  Perhaps the first time it was found in print was in a cartoon series entitled:  “The Berrys” by Carl Grubert in the Long Beach Independent, December 1959.

If your answer to the above riddle was “onion”  then you solved the riddle.
