ETMC recognized in national magazine report

East Texas Medical Center Tyler received recognition in the August issue of U.S. News for performing at the level of nationally ranked best hospitals in seven adult specialities.

ETMC scored high in patient safety and received recognition as a high performer in the following categories: diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and GI surgery; nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

According to the magazine’s data, ETMC Tyler had 20,496 admissions, 7,030 inpatient and 6,628 outpatient surgeries and 69,452 emergency room visits in 2011.

U.S. News surveyed nearly 10,000 specialists and sifted through data for approximately 5,000 hospitals to rank the best in 16 adult specialties, from cancer to urology. Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered. Only 147 hospitals were nationally ranked in one or more specialties.
