The Sweet Song String Band of Bennington, OK will be performing and leading a hands- on-workshop on Hammered and Mountain Dulcimers on April 6th, 2013. Come and learn how to play these instruments and how to make them too! This free event will be held in the Mary H. Herron Community Conference Center of the museum of the Red River, 812 E. Lincoln Road, Idabel, Oklahoma. Performance and workshops are from 10-12 and 1-3pm. This concert is part of the Smithsonian’s New Harmonies Exhibit that is open until April 27th.

David Lindsey has been building and playing his own hammered dulcimers since 1978. The following year, David’s wife, Annette, became interested in the mountain dulcimer and together they helped found the Sweet Song String Band, a group that is still active today. This family band (David, Annette and daughters) enjoys playing and singing old-time and gospel songs, and all are very involved in the Red River Valley Dulcimer Club.  Their favorite thing to do is help others find the love for the music that changed their lives so completely that day back in 1978.
