Award winning basket weaver and teacher, Mary Smith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma will present catch basket workshop in the Mary H. Herron Community Conference Center of the museum of the Red River, 812 E. Lincoln Road, Idabel, Oklahoma. The workshop will be held on February 9, beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm. Lunch will be pot-luck from 12:00 -1:00 p.m.

The cost of the workshop is $40 and that includes all materials for the project. Mary will have additional supplies available for sale. She will also have a display of some of her work.

Mary is a self-taught basket weaver. She began weaving in 2001. Mary revived the Creek Double False Braid Rim in 2005. This rimming method is unique only to Creek basketry; it had not been done for 100 – 150 years. The Creek Council House in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and the Poarch Creek Indians in Atmore, Alabama have filmed Mary in 2005 demonstrating this technique.
