Tucson, AZ - August 28, 2013 - Mrs. Texas, Austen Williams was crowned Mrs. America 2013 Wednesday night at the Lowes Ventana Canyon Resort and Spa in Tucson. On the eve of the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther Kings "I Have a Dream" Speech in Washington DC, Austen's dream came true! Austen is the first African American to win the title in 37 years. A pageant Veteran, Austen was also the first African-American South Carolina Teen USA in 2002 and was awarded the congeniality award at Miss Teen USA 2002. The first runner-up was Mrs. Idaho, and Second runner-up was Mrs. Nevada. Using the online Social Media outlets, the 2013 Mrs. America Competition was broadcast live on LIVESTREAM.
A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Austen spends her time being a wife to Marcel, and mommy to her little boy, Marc, and her baby girl, Michal. She also owns a photography business, Sugarbabe Photography, a full service baby, children, and family lifestyle portraiture company. When she is not working in photography she still dabbles in the entertainment industry, co-hosting a teen talk show called, InSight.
Each year, 52 delegates (all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the National First Runner Up) compete for the coveted title. Imitated but never duplicated, "MRS.AMERICA". It remains the first, and still the foremost competition for married women! This renowned national competition is devoted to emphasizing that America's 70 million married woman are extraordinarily beautiful, poised, articulate and versatile. Each of the 52 contestants, ranging in age from the 20 to 50, earns the right to participate in the national event by winning her state competition.
