Pond management conference and expo focuses on Texas’ private waters

Texas is water conscious, especially when it comes to ponds and lakes. The Natural Resources Conservation Service estimates more than a million private ponds and lakes dot the landscape of the Lone Star State. From stock ponds for cattle to thoughtfully designed fishing lakes, water is a mainstay for landowners.

The last 20 years has seen a paradigm shift for Texas landowners. Ponds and lakes have become focal points for recreation. That fact has spawned an industry of pond management. People want to know how to keep their ponds and lakes healthy, how to nudge their fish to grow larger and how to manage runaway aquatic plants.

Now, they have a chance to get answers to their questions. On July 11 and 12, at the Arlington Convention Center near the ball park, experts and professional pond managers from all over the nation will gather to hold a conference and expo just for pond owners.

Headliners will be Bob Lusk, editor of Pond Boss magazine and 30-year veteran pond manager with Ray Scott, the founder of B.A.S.S. and active pond manager. They will tag up with Dale Hall, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from Washington D.C. The 2-day program of speakers and hands-on training is exactly what a pond owner needs to expand their knowledge. There will be more than 15 speakers addressing all the key topics.

Learn how to grow giant fish, what kinds of plants are “good” and which are “bad.” The Expo will have all the latest, greatest pond tools, such as aerators, fish feeders and fish foods.

Experts in all practical fields of recreational pond management will be there.

There will even be a 2-hour seminar on fly-fishing your pond.
