Three Upshur County Officials were charged with official oppression and abuse of official capacity by a grand jury.

Sheriff Anthony Betteron, Judge Dean Fowler, and precinct 3 Commissioner Lloyd Crabtree all turned themselves in after they were charged.

These charges stem from the Upshur County Commissioner's court ending public comments at meetings.

KLTV has also learned that Upshur County Judge Dean Fowler cast the tie-breaking vote to once again, allow public comment at meetings.

For weeks, residents taped their mouths shut in silent protest during the meetings. Some even wore their disgust with the rule on their sleeves, wearing shirts that read "Can you hear me now?"

Public comment will be allowed at the next meeting, but two new commissioners are expected to join the court after the first of the year.

Just checked the Upshur County Judical Records, not any of the 3 were booked in or mug shots taken. If your charged, you have to be arrested and if your arrested you have to be booked in. Are these 3 being given special treatment?

Isn't that ironic that the indicted officials are whining, especially Todd Tefteller their attorney, because they didn't get a chance to tell there side of the story after voting to not allow the citizens comment or give there side at meetings? Welcome to Upshur County Justice Todd Tefteller, Dean, Betterton and Crabtree. With your cussing in the press, Todd Tefteller, we thought you might want to run for county judge. It appears you are taking after Dean Fowler as when he tries to belittle the county commissioners in his kangaroo court. The county judge job does not require a law degree and with Fowler's bad press you would probably stand a good chance of taking it away from him. LOL, but thats only after you let us piss on the carpet as you said in the newspapers. Right now we are just busy pissing on Fowler and wondering what school you all got your law degrees from. Is it the online school the University of Phoenix? LOL

Billy Byrd is doing some good here with Fowler, but like Fowler he puts GUILTY on you and its up to you to prove your way out of it and you have to outspend the DA's office to do it, which no one can do. When you can't outspend the DA's office, and they really have nothing to take you to court on, they will let you go on a lesser charge, but you still have to pay out money, etc. Otherwise they will take you to court until they break you financially. So you are still screwed. Billy Byrd is one that needs to be investigated also, but leave him along until he HANGS this trio HIGH.

BILLY BYRD has no integrity, honesty nor balls. He hides behind his office and wheels his power for political gain. He picks and chooses who he will take a complaint from, to have charges brought against and hides his own misgivings and crimes by exercising his powers of exclusion from prosicution. Nothing but a sorry politition and District Attorney. Yea, Dean Fowler deserves what he gets but you can bet Billy Byrd deserves it at well.

HANG EM HIGH DISTRICT ATTORNEY BILLY BYRD! I'm glad someone has integrity, honesty and the balls to go after the people in Gilmer that "think" they are someone and think they can bend the law in their favor when needed and use it against those they do not like for political reasons. HANG EM HIGH!

Someone post information on this when this goes to court. I want to attend! Fowler is the biggest joke in the world. Not just as a small town county judge, but as an attorney. The press has said the other two individuals hired an attorney. Fowler did not. Only a FOOL would represent himself. Well, we all know FOWLER is a FOOL. He has just proven it so. LOL. His liable to get himself the death sentence if he represents himself, LOL. I really do hope he represents himself. This will help to ensure the maximum sentence against him. That is as long as Lauren Parish, Banner or the rest of the questionable judges are not on the bench to let them all off lightly. Everyone needs to show up for this case to ensure a good representation in the court room. CALL and EMAIL the press

(redio, TV, newspapers) to alert them of this matter and post follow up information here. I would also send the current press releases to every radio, tv and newspaper you could find to alert the press of these people. It's just GREAT NEWS. HAPPY 2011! WHAT A GREAT START TO 2011 THIS IS.

I hope they give him the maximum sentence of one year in county jail. This is the man who gave my son the maximum sentence of six months in county jail for fishing on my lake and in his own back yard. You cannot believe how happy my son and I are right now. This calls for fireworks!!!!!!
